The Mighty Green Tea

Green Tea has many, many health benefits researchers all over the world have documented the benefits of drinking tea green as well as black tea. For example after researching the benefits of green tea I discovered it is also good for preventing tooth decay. This was a surprising fact, the theory behind green tea having the ability to prevent tooth decay is due to its has the ability to kill bacteria in the mouth, and this is what prevents the decay.

Green tea also helps to reduce inflammation, and helps in detoxification - which is always great for the body. Green tea has been proven to help boost the immune system because of its ability to arrest free radical in the body. Greet tea has also been noted as a preventive for esophageal cancer. Green tea is a powerful tea loaded with antioxidants which gives it the cancer preventative measures.

Green Tea in Face Cream

Green tea extract is a  versatile herbal supplement - it can be used topically, often being used in creams. More cosmetic companies are adding green tea to their product.  Using green tea in one of my facial products does give the skin a refreshing feeling.  The cooled tea bag can also be placed on the eyes for puffy eyes.

Green Tea For Eye Health

If the catechins in green tea can reach the tissues of the eye and protect them against oxidative damage, it could also help to prevent other eye diseases such as cataracts and retinal degeneration – conditions which are also associated with oxidative eye damage. Antioxidants from other sources – especially lutein – found in green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts seem to reduce the risk of macular degeneration of the eye – another condition that leads to visual loss.

Researchers from different hospitals in Hong Kong recently discovered that the antioxidant catechins found in green tea can successfully penetrate the eyes of rats – allowing it to potentially offset the oxidative damage that could lead to glaucoma. Prior to this study scientists weren’t sure whether green tea could successfully make its way into tissues of the eye to exert its antioxidant effects. Oxidative damage seems to play a role in the sequence of events that leads up to this disease, and if green tea can reach the critical eye tissues, it could offer some protection.

Green tea’s health benefits are often underestimated. Researchers have found that drinking green tea increases the metabolism, which then speeds the oxidation of fat cells, promoting healthy weight loss. Rich in powerful, disease-fighting antioxidants, green tea has also been proven to boost the immune system, promote healthier skin and hair, and slow or prevent vision problems that develop naturally with age. Studies show that green tea’s natural anti-inflammatory agent, epigallo-cathechin-3-gallate (EGCG), works to reduce joint inflammation and can help ease the pain of arthritis. Because green tea contains about half the amount of caffeine as regular black tea, green tea is mild enough to aid relaxation and is shown to sooth muscles aches and alleviate migraine headaches. Another benefit to green tea: its catechins can help boost memory and brain functionality. Researchers continue to study the link between green tea’s antioxidants and cancer prevention; though some scientists have found that green tea reduced cancer risk, more conclusive evidence of this health benefit is needed.
