B12 And You

Vitamin B12 have a numerous amount of benefits that can help individuals in different ways. The most common benefit of B12 is its ability to boost ones energy level, and speed up your metabolism. Patients who suffer with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can make excellent use of B12 by taking the therapeutic amount. The therapeutic amount is 1000 micrograms. B12 has helped individuals feel less tired, and worn down. The most effective form is B12dots or lozenges.(sublingual under the tongue). Vitamin B12 is also available in a vegetarian form, which is the type I use for myself.

B12 And Your Nervous System

How Nutrients Partner Together

Without vitamin B12 present in your body iron is incapable of functioning at its full potential . Nutrients in our body work together in a corporate effort to keep us healthy . . For example vitamin B12 helps the body to absorb carotene, and it plays a role in vitamin A being converted .

Look at it this way nutrients work as a team in an united effort for a common goal . Take for instance how healthy red blood cells are produced. It takes vitamin B12, vitamin B6 , vitamin B2 for production of healthy looking blood cells. Vitamin B1 is vital to maintain the health of the cell.

Under a microscope doctors can see whether the shape of a blood cell is normal or abnormal. Another example where nutrients work together its energy production in maintaining a healthy nervous system. The B vitamins work in totality to ensure proper functioning of the brain, and nervous system .

Team B Working Together

Here's a breakdown in no particular order:

  • energy booster ---------------------------------------B12

Notes Of Interest

  1. There are other b vitamins that are uncommon due to that have not been approved as authentic b vitamins, they are: B15, B17, and Bt.
  2. The effectiveness of B Complex vitamins can be reduced and/or diminished by using sulfa medications, and sleeping aids, such as sleeping pills.

Absorption And You

B Complex and and it's group of the B vitamins work in a joint venture like effort. The B vitamin can relieve various ailments of different degrees. Most individuals prefer to take the complex which is all inclusive of all the B vitamins.

When targeting a particular health condition individuals may choose to boost up a single dose of a B. vitamin.

Absorption is the most important factor when taking nutrients , drinking alcohol is a commonality for all the nutrients , alcohol destroys the properties in nutrients . Other than alcohol there are other things to watch out for; . in taking above average amounts of sugar interfere with the absorption of B1 and B2.

In addition antacids, and caffeine can slow down absorption in B2. just as there are substances that interfere with nutrients there are things that can deplete the body from nutrients . For niacin starches and certain types of antibiotics can deplete B3 from the body .

Does anyone know where we can we purchase the B12 melts for under the tongue...or is this prescription only? What is the recommended dosage for weight loss? Is it better to take both B6 & B12 together to promote weight loss?

Marvelous hub! This is great information. I take a vit B12 that melts under the tongue. I haven't noticed a big difference in energy levels yet. I also skip a day now and then. :-) Thanks for your research and well written article. Up and awesome!

Hi Amanda, Thank you for asking, according to the Nutrition Almanac the recommended daily dosage according to some clinicians suggest at least 100 micrograms. In my suggestion of the 1000 amount it is referring to individuals with specific related physical challegnes. Of course one should consult with their physician before starting a change in dietary supplements.

amanda allen 17 months ago

i am confused a bit. your article states:

"The therapeutic amount is 1000 milligrams"

this is the equivalent of taking an 100 entire bottles of over the counter b12 dietary supplement (most are 100 mcg) and well over 1000 times the usda suggested amount. in one dose. is the dosage you listed correct?

@Cathy, You mention taking b12 every 3 weeks, I would suggest your asking the Dr. who is giving you the shots. It is always the best ideal to go over your numbers with your Dr.

CATHY 21 months ago

I take b12 shots every 3 wks. Is there a blood count for lack of b12? I think my Dr. said my count is 145. Would this be right?

Very well done. I was advised by my doctor, there is no side affect for too much B12. He recommended injections to make sure it gets into my blood stream. I hate injections. Very helpful Hub.

Hello I am new at this. your article was very informative. However I would like to know if you can get too much of B12. Does the body store it forever or is it used up? Thanks for your time.

B17 or crunching on the bitter apricot kernal is supposed to be excellent for cancer, although they are not pleasant to taste - very bitter and look a little like a round almond nut but they are harder

by fresh fruits and vegetables.

Hi adrienne2,

Great info about vitamins but remember not everyone needs vitamins & there use can be toxic too.

vitamin B17 or apricot kernels use is not widely recognized because apricot kernels has Cyanide. Too much of apricot kernels can have toxic affect on health.

Detailed info about apricot kernels....

Most American get enough because they eat meat. It's important to note there are 2 kinds of B12 supplements: The cheaper and less absorbable "Cyanocobalamin" which is interestingly enough bound to a cyanide molecule (The cyanide is added to the molecule by activated charcoal columns in purification). Crazy eh? Cyanide? And "Methylcobalamin". Most people have no idea there are different forms of B12

adrienne2 profile image

adrienne2 Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Boungie, yeah it is all in the absorption, when I first started taking supplements, and vitamins years ago I just took them thinking I did my job now vitamins do yours. HA! Then I learned about absorption, if they are not absorbed properly it's just as if you never took it.

boungie 2 years ago

Nice article!  I've become a big fan of vitamins too these days and learned that vitamins become even been when they're combined with other vitamins and minerals.  There really seems to be a synergetic effect and I've felt the health benefits.

thanks for the info.  You're right, absorption is so important and it's crazy to realize that a lot of vitamins just aren't absorbed that well by the body.
