Why Laughing Is Good For You

Good For The Lungs

I have heard for many years that laughing is good for your lungs, and good for your health. I have also heard sermons preached on laughing. Can you believe that? I can. Laughing is great medicine. A good hearty laugh is great for reducing stress, ever thought of laughing as a stress reliever. Laughing releases endorphins in the brain, which are the body's stress-reliever hormone. Did you know a good hearty laugh can burn calories? Yep, sure does. Laughing is great exercise for your lungs due to it helps the lungs into oxygen, and then exhale. Laughter increase oxygen into the blood which travels throughout the body which flows healthy oxygen rich blood to all of our organs, and cells.

Makes You Feel Good

Aside from the wonderful health benefits of laughing, laughing just makes you feel so darn good. If you were upset about something, and someone makes you laugh, you will forget for a moment what you were upset about. While you're laughing it does give you an optimistic feeling because of the endorphins being released in your body.

  • Laughing boost your immune system by increasing your T-cells, these are the body helper cells which help to fight off free radicals in the body.

  • There is a proverb that says laughter does you good like medicine

My mom use to live next door to a woman who every evening she watched DVD's of funny movies, and my mom would hear her laughing (true story) for 2 - 3 hours. Of course not non-stop, what is interesting about this woman she never left her apartment much because of health situations. This was about 3 years ago now this same woman has started working a part-time job, purchased a vehicle, and does not need as much assistance as she did before. I want to make it clear that I am not claiming that her laughing is 100% the reason for her improvement in her health.

But it is interesting how consistantly she used laughter every single day, and now her life has totally changed. It does give good food for thought.

Excellent uplifting hub. I learned the beauty of laughter during an epiphany in my youth. The health benefits derived from laughter keeps you living longer.

We take ourselves too serious when we reach adulthood, especially in these times we need to learn to lighten up. Thank you for this informative hub, loved the recommended sites.

Rated up, shared and bookmarked.

Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.

A thought can turn a frown to a smile

A smile can change a tear into a laugh

A laugh can turn sorrow into joy

A joy can bring light out of darkness

A light can bring dead things to life

What a nice thought...makes me smile... =:) ~ Winsome

Very interesting information. I believed laughter was good for mental health but didn't realize it was a boon for physical health as well.

@Ictodd thank you for the wonderful comment!

@GmaGoldie I was surprised when I found the information of laughter yoga, I thought to myself no one is going to believe it lol.

@Dobson We as human beings do tend to "want to worry" I believe we have to learn to program ourself not to worry, and practice getting a good laugh a day even if its watching your favorite sitcom. The Big Bang Theory is funny to me I enjoy intelligent humor so every Monday night I am sitting there laughing away.

If we could only learn to laugh instead of finding things to worry about, our lives would be so much better. This is a nice hub on the tactic that provides great guidelines and information about how laughter can improve your life.
